Transcriptome-Wide Analysis Identifies Novel Associations With Blood Pressure.
2017
Hypertension represents a major cardiovascular risk factor. The pathophysiology of increased blood pressure (BP) is not yet completely understood. Transcriptome profiling offers possibilities to uncover genetics effects on BP. Based on 2 populations including 2549 individuals, a meta-analyses of monocytic transcriptome-wide profiles were performed to identify transcripts associated with BP. Replication was performed in 2 independent studies of whole-blood transcriptome data including 1990 individuals. For identified candidate genes, a direct link between long-term changes in BP and gene expression over time and by treatment with BP-lowering therapy was assessed. The predictive value of pro…
Blood pressure measurement in children and adolescents : key element in the evaluation of arterial hypertension
2022
Arterial hypertension is the main modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, occupying the first place among the causes of loss of life years adjusted for disability. In recent years, arterial hypertension in children and adolescents has gained ground in cardiovascular medicine thanks to progress made in several areas, fundamentally in pathophysiological and clinical research. Despite the advances that have been made in recent years, the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of high blood pressure in children and adolescents still have room for improvement. In this sense, the correct measurement of blood pressure is especially important, since it includes a series of essential element…
Blood pressure for outcome prediction and risk stratification in acute pulmonary embolism.
2015
Abstract Introduction Risk stratification of patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is crucial in deciding appropriate therapy management. Blood pressure (BP) is rapidly available and a reliable parameter. We aimed to investigate BP for short-term outcome in acute PE. Materials and methods Data of 182 patients with acute PE were analyzed retrospectively. Logistic regression models were calculated to investigate associations between BP and in-hospital-death as well as myocardial necrosis. Moreover, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and cutoff values for systolic and diastolic BPs predicting in-hospital death and myocardial necrosis were computed. Results A total of 182 pati…
Relationship of Metabolic Syndrome With Pulse Pressure in Patients With Essential Hypertension
2006
BACKGROUND: Pulse pressure is largely dependent on arterial stiffness. Recent studies have documented reduced large artery compliance in nondiabetic subjects with metabolic syndrome (MS). The aim of our study was to analyze, in a group of patients with essential hypertension and without diabetes mellitus, the influence of MS on clinic and 24-h pulse pressures. METHODS: A total of 528 hypertensive subjects, aged 18 to 72 years, who were free of cardiovascular and renal diseases were enrolled. Of the subjects, 41% had MS. In all subjects routine blood chemistry, echocardiographic examination, and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring were performed. RESULTS: When compared with subjects wi…
Prevalence and clinical characteristics of patients with true resistant hypertension in central and Eastern Europe
2013
Objective Scanty information is available on the clinical characteristics of resistant hypertension in Central and East European countries. The Blood Pressure (BP) control rate and CArdiovascular Risk profilE (BP-CARE) study allowed us to assess the prevalence and the main clinical features of resistant hypertension in this population. Design and method The study was carried out in 1312 treated hypertensive patients living in nine Central and East European countries. Results Four hundred and twenty-three patients had apparent resistant hypertension, of whom 168 had pseudo-resistant hypertension (noncompliant/white-coat) and 255 were true treatment-resistant hypertension patients (TRH). Clin…
Comparison of selective internal iliac pharmaco-angiography, penile brachial index and duplex sonography with pulsed Doppler analysis for the evaluat…
1990
AbstractBetween July 1987 and February 1988 selective internal iliac angiography was performed before and after intracavernous injection of papaverine plus phentolamine in 43 patients with erectile dysfunction. In 63% of the patients stenosis or occlusion of the pudendal artery was found. The penile brachial index was calculated and duplex sonography with pulsed Doppler analysis was performed in 23 patients. Angiography and penile brachial index correlated in only 39% of the patients, whereas selective internal iliac angiography and duplex sonography correlated in 91% (21 of 23). In 2 patients duplex sonography with pulsed Doppler analysis rendered better information about penile arterial p…
Noninvasive Hemodynamic Measurements During Neurosurgical Procedures in Sitting Position.
2017
Neurosurgical procedures in sitting position need advanced cardiovascular monitoring. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to measure cardiac output (CO)/cardiac index (CI) and stroke volume (SV), and invasive arterial blood pressure measurements for systolic (ABPsys), diastolic (ABPdiast) and mean arterial pressure (MAP) are established monitoring technologies for these kind of procedures. A noninvasive device for continuous monitoring of blood pressure and CO based on a modified Penaz technique (volume-clamp method) was introduced recently. In the present study the noninvasive blood pressure measurements were compared with invasive arterial blood pressure monitoring, and the noninvasive…
Variable association of 24-h peripheral and central hemodynamics and stiffness with hypertension-mediated organ damage: the VASOTENS Registry.
2020
Objective In this analysis of the telehealth-based Vascular health ASsessment Of The hypertENSive patients Registry, we checked how 24-h central and peripheral hemodynamics compare with hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD). Methods In 646 hypertensive patients (mean age 52 ± 16 years, 54% males, 65% treated) we obtained ambulatory brachial and central SBP and pulse pressure (PP), SBP, and PP variability, pulse wave velocity and augmentation index with a validated cuff-based technology. HMOD was defined by an increased left ventricular mass index (cardiac damage, evaluated in 482 patients), an increased intima-media thickness (vascular damage, n = 368), or a decreased estimated glomerul…
Estimation of pulmonary arterial pressure by measuring the size of the right pulmonary artery in the suprasternal echocardiogram.
1982
We studied 175 patients within 24 hr before cardiac catheterization with suprasternal echocardiography to evaluate whether pulmonary arterial hypertension can be derived by measuring the size of the right pulmonary artery. Group I consisted of 103 patients without pulmonary arterial hypertension (enddiastolic less than or equal to 12 mm Hg; mean pressure less than 20 mm Hg) and group II consisted of 72 patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. The right pulmonary artery could be imaged in 91.2% of the patients studied. The size of the right pulmonary artery at the end of diastole in group I measured 17.9 +/- 0.2 mm (mean +/- SEM) and correlated best to the body surface area in this gro…
Feasibility of cuff-free measurement of systolic and diastolic arterial blood pressure
2011
We validated a prototype cuff-free device for noninvasive estimation of blood pressure (BP). The system assumed a linear relation between BP values and the inverse of arterial blood pulse transit time, measured as time interval between the R wave on the electrocardiograph and the onset of the peripheral pulse wave on a finger plethysmogram. Thirty-three healthy subjects were analyzed at rest and during increasing stress exercise. To estimate subject-specific linear model parameters, the system was calibrated ad personam with reference to BP measures obtained by a cuff sphygmomanometer. High correlation values (R2= 0.89 and 0.78 for systolic and diastolic BP, respectively) and differences co…
